Adventures in Faith: Learning to Listen in Serving Others

“Washing one's hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral.” Paulo Freire, Brazilian educator (1921-1997)
This Sunday, we will hear about the international faith adventure of one of our lifelong members, someone who grew up singing, playing, learning and leading amid the loving, God-inspired care of our congregation.
After graduating high school a few years ago, Seanna decided to take a gap year. She wanted to serve others. Her adventure took her to Nepal, where she worked on building rural water systems and to an island in Nicaragua, where she worked on a farm. In the course of her work, Seanna learned what it means serve others: to work with them, to listen, to let yourself be led. She learned to listen for how God was speaking through the people she was seeking to help and how she needed to practice humility and pay attention.
In hearing from Seanna, we will reflect on the apostle Paul's beautiful description of how we all take part in being the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12). We will sing, we will pray and we will listen. Come with Seanna to join us at the well of abundant life.
