Frank Schaefer Speaking at United Parish
On June 1st at 11:00 am, United Parish will welcome Frank Schaefer as our guest preacher. Last year, Rev. Schaefer was charged by a United Methodist court for officiating his son’s same-sex marriage. During the trial, he refused to denounce gay marriage rights, and was defrocked on December 19, 2013.
Rev. Schaefer received an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary and he was ordained as an elder in full connection in the United Methodist Church in 1996. In 2002, he earned a Clinical Pastoral Education degree from Penn State University. He is now a United Methodist lay person, speaker and activist, and continues to advocate for human rights via UMCvoices.org, an organization he founded to give voice to those who are marginalized.
