Stop Hunger Now
Each year the Temple Shir Tikva choir and the United Parish of Brookline choir collaborate on a weekend of joint musical worship services. This year, our services will be on Friday March 3 at 6: 15 p.m. at Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland (141 Boston Post Road) and on Sunday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m. at United Parish in Brookline (210 Harvard Street).
Our joint programs have been wonderful celebrations of interfaith community, prayer, and music over the last 5 years and this year we decided to engage in our first service project together.
We are teaming with an organization called Rise Against Hunger to pack a minimum of 10,000 meals in just a few hours on March 5th for food for people in developing countries. We need volunteers and contributions to bring this opportunity to fruition.
Our meal packing event will take place at United Parish in Brookline immediately following our morning service on Sunday, March 5 at 11 a.m.. A light lunch will be served at noon and the meal packaging will take place shortly thereafter. We must raise $3000 to meet our goal of packing at least 10,000 meals and we need at least 60 volunteers to help with the packing. If we surpass our goal we may be able to double our impact!
Here is how it works:
"Rise Against Hunger’s meal packaging program is a volunteer-based initiative that coordinates the assembly-line packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, and 23 essential vitamins and minerals. The program was created to give individuals the opportunity to participate in a hands-on international hunger relief program and to become educated, engaged advocates for the world’s hungry."
