Lindsey Franklin: Spiritual Bread

By Kent French
August 5, 2021 - 10:47am

In our summer emphasis on our 50th Anniversary theme of "Rooted in our Past, Reaching into our Future," we have invited our five past seminarians to preach and share about how this place rooted them and also helped them reach, and to hear what's happened in their life and ministry since leaving United Parish. Last Sunday we heard from Cydney Van Dyke (2014-16) and this Sunday we'll hear from Lindsey Franklin (2016-17), currently the Associate Pastor for Development at Richmond Hill, an ecumenical Christian retreat center, committed to spiritual development and racial reconciliation.

Many of us may not realize just how much our congregation helps these seminarians root in their faith, their sense of call and vocation, or how much we help them reach into their future. Lindsey had a powerful experience of this among us and on Sunday, she will look at John 6:24-35, when Jesus talks with his followers about the importance of spiritual bread for lifelong sustenance, following up on his feeding of the five thousand (which we explored on Sunday, July 25). She will inquire about how Jesus delights and nourishes us and how we in turn delight and nourish one another. And more specifically, how United Parish did that for her.

Join us this Sunday as we welcome Lindsey back into our "virtual" midst. Tune in at 9am on our YouTube channel here or anytime thereafter. She will also join us in Zoom coffee hour after worship.

In faith,
Kent
