Summer Book Groups
It's time for Summer Book Groups at United Parish!
In the month of July, we hope you will take time to read Inspired – Slaying Giants, Walking on Water and Loving the Bible Again by Rachel Held Evans. Inspired invites readers on a journey of rediscovery of the Bible in ways that honor the past and enlighten the present. Drawing upon recent scholarship and literary analysis, Evans creatively retells our favorite Bible stories, explaining their contexts and possible interpretations. In our discussion, we will connect these ancient stories to our present-day lives as people of faith.
Discussion group opportunities for Inspired will be led by Deb Hall and Mark Jones and are scheduled for:
- Sunday, July 25 from 5:00–7:30pm in Memorial Park. Bring your own dinner entree and United Parish will provide beverages and dessert (that meets United Parish COVID food guidelines).
- Tuesday, July 27 from 7:30-9pm on Zoom
The discussion session will focus on the following chapters, so if you have the book, but have limited time to read before the session, just read:
- Introduction P. xi-xxiii
- The Well/ Ch. 2 - Deliverance Stories P. 29-57
- The Water/ Ch. 6 - Gospel Stories P. 141-164
- Epilogue P. 215-221
Please contact Deb Hall at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to participate and if you need a copy of the book. A limited number of books have been ordered by Adult Deepening and will be available on a pay-what-you-can basis. You can pick up yours in the Church Office.
