Advent 4: We See God in Each Other
By Kent French
December 15, 2022 - 6:19am
This Advent, we are following the series From Generation to Generation from A Sanctified Art. Recalling Mary's words in the Magnificat:
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
God's mercy is for those who fear God from generation to generation. (Luke 1:48b, 50)
Throughout our lives, you and I are part of many conversations: some short, some long, some perfunctory and everyday, some soul-stirring and life-changing.
On Sunday, we're going to listen in again to a conversation between two expectant mothers, women whose pregnancies and motherhood would change the course of human history (Luke 1:39-58). It's a conversation of surprise, of joy, of gratitude. It's also a conversation that prompts Mary to offer a kind of poem about magnifying God in the world, bringing about God's kind of justice and equity.
How are you and I magnifying God in the world? How do our conversations, our very being magnify God's goodness to those around us? And how often are we willing to notice the spark, the light and presence of God in one another?
On Sunday, we will deepen into these questions. We will also have a musical extravaganza to inspire us, with our Chancel, Children's and Handbell choirs and a special guest brass ensemble.
Come be a part of this holy conversation and together let us polish the magnifying glasses of our souls.
