Howard Thurman (1899-1981), Dean of Marsh Chapel and professor at Boston University School of Theology, is considered by many as the theologian of the Civil Rights Movement.
He wrote:
When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among brothers,
To make music in the heart.
There is always a lot of Christmas work to do in the world, regardless of who is in power. Following our usual custom on the first Sunday after Christmas, we will make music in the heart and voice with a carol sing. Beverly B. is bringing some musical colleagues to accompany us with a string quartet. Come for something a little homier, cozier, and comforting.
In faith,
Kent
