This summer’s worship series will feature members and friends Reporting the Good News, however they see it in the world around them. We will look to Jesus’ inaugural sermon (Luke 4:14-19) and Isaiah 61 for our guidance about what God’s kind of Good News looks like, namely liberation for all of us. Summer worship is at 10am in Willett Hall.
This Sunday, we hear from William, one of our teens, about how the Good News that God is always with him is a source of confidence and courage in his life. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know William, along with many of the teens at United Parish, through service activities, our monthly Parent/Teen dinner nights, and myriad other church activities. It takes a lot of courage as a teen to stand before your congregation and share your own special brand of wisdom, as well as offer a window into a world that many of us will never completely understand. William writes,
“In this day and age, being a teenager is a lot more challenging than it was decades ago. This is because of social media and all the crazy expectations it creates that then makes people like me and my friends feel bad and doubt ourselves for “not being good enough”.
I’m sure many of us, even those who were teenagers many decades ago, long before social media and smartphones, can relate to that poignant question, ‘do I measure up?’. When we find ourselves asking that question, what does it mean to find solace and courage in God’s encouraging presence? Especially as a teen?
Join us on Sunday at 10am in Willett hall and online to find out – we’ll sing, pray, learn, and rejoice in the Good News together!
In faith,
Amy
