This summer’s worship series features members and friends Reporting the Good News, however they see it in the world around them. We look to Jesus’ inaugural sermon (Luke 4:14-19) and Isaiah 61 for our guidance about what God’s kind of Good News looks like: liberation for all of us. Summer worship is at 10am in Willett Hall.
Twenty-five years ago, Merle P and I shared the stage together in theatrical productions around Boston. At the time, we were both full-time actors and singers. Merle has continued in that work, as well as an educator. And I became an actor-singer-pastor, showing up as the pastor of her congregation 13 years ago.
As many of you have witnessed, we still enjoy singing together and listening to each other, making music with Susan and all of you in this beloved community. And through it all, our affection for each other has only grown.
We have long wanted to create some sort of combined project for you and this Sunday is our first experiment with it. Through story, song, history, Gospel teaching, and images, we will explore what it means to live into that well-worn phrase from our collective weekly prayer: thy will be done on Earth as it is heaven. We will look at a moment when Jesus told the Pharisees, “The kingdom of heaven is within you” (Luke 17:20-24).
Some of you may be looking forward to it. Some of you may be I don’t know… Whether you’re eager, hesitant or anywhere in between, I hope you will come find some Good News with us. Susan, Merle and I are excited to share it with you.
In faith,
Kent
