In what ways do you think those who do violence are harmed by their actions? In a moment, getting angry at someone may make us feel powerful, but are there longer term ramifications that have potential to weaken our relationships? Can you think of examples of these in your own life?

Have you ever been caught in the middle of a conflict where both sides were behaving badly? What did you do? What do you wish you had done?

Can you think of contemporary conflicts when pride and entitlement have led to violence?

As you consider Abigail’s wise intervention, can you think of times when you set a table for peace? Correspondingly, can you think of times when anger disrupted a holiday or gathering of friends? What might you and others have done proactively to help prevent an angry situation?
