Join us for Advent Adult Deepening Opportunities in December:
How Does a Weary World Rejoice?
Christ was born into a weary world with many challenges, bringing good news of great joy to all, but especially those who were watching for it. This Advent, the world needs us – as individuals and as a community of faith – to watch for and share the morsels of joy and “thrill of hope” that God brought and still is bringing to our worried and weary world.
There will be several opportunities to consider and connect with the story of the birth of Christ during the December weeks of Advent:
1. Weekly Zoom Classes/Conversations on 3 Tuesdays: December 5, 12 and 19 from 7:30-8:30 PM.
2. “Prayer Partners” – self-scheduled, 20-30 minute weekly shared prayer and discussion with someone at United Parish, starting the week of December 4. The Adult Deepening team will assign you a partner or you can sign up with a person you choose. Prayer Partners will be provided Advent devotional materials to support your prayer time together.
3. Weekly Bible Study on Sundays at 10 AM on Zoom and in the Parlor
Since the first week of Advent starts on November 26 – at the end of the Thanksgiving weekend, the Advent Zoom classes in December will cover these Advent lessons 2-4:
Advent 2: We Find Joy in Connection (Luke 1:24-45 and Isaiah 40:1-11)
Advent 3: We Allow Ourselves to be Amazed (Luke 1:57-66 and Psalm 126)
Advent 4: We Sing Stories of Hope (Luke 1:46-55 and 67-80)
Please contact adultdeepening@upbrookline.org to let us know which opportunities interest you, and we will email materials for Prayer Partners and Advent Zoom classes. Or speak to Deb H. if you have questions. All are welcome!
