The Chancel Choir is a capable and dynamic group of enthusiastic singers that rehearses on Thursday evenings, and leads music in worship upstairs in the sanctuary from September through June. They sing music in a variety of styles, from Baroque to gospel, and perform larger works with instrumentalists 2-3 times a year. Singers develop vocal technique and musicianship with the help of professional section leaders, expand their musical repertoire, and cultivate friendships in a warm and inviting community of singers while serving the worship needs of the church. They welcome adults and teens who can carry a tune and have some choral singing experience. (Inexperienced singers start with one on one training sessions on an as needed basis.) Please reach out to Minister of Music Susan DeSelms at susan@upbrookline.orgto learn more about how to join the Chancel Choir. We welcome new members throughout the year.
The Children’s Choir (grades 1-7) rehearses most Sundays from September through June during the school year at 9am in the Choir Room. Directed by Susan DeSelms, the children receive musical and vocal training, learn new music, and regularly sing in worship for the congregation. They are a vibrant, welcoming, and delightfully musical group of children who are always ready to sing. While the age range is broad, it allows younger children to develop confidence and musical ability with the help and leadership of their older, more experienced peers. Parents should reach out to susan@upbrookline.org for more information.
United Parish Ringers, our handbell choir directed by Tricia Kopko, welcomes experienced and novice adults and teens, and rehearses Monday evenings from 7:30-9pm starting in September. They play 6-7 times a year, with 3-4 rehearsals leading up to each performance in worship. Repertoire is planned and adapted for the number of ringers signed up for each rehearsal/performance block. For more information, contact Tricia Kopko at bellchoir@upbrookline.org.
