Work continues on the Sanctuary Improvements projects. While you may not “see” many changes, the work on various projects is happening. The Sanctuary Improvements Committee is breaking down the larger proposed RO+A project into pieces and then taking smaller steps on the most immediate concerns of the Congregation.
Top of the list for the Congregation is improving accessibility. We are a welcoming community, but our building is not welcoming to all. The first step towards improving access is to hire a consultant to complete an “accessibility study.” This study will include prices estimates. Once completed, we can set priorities as to which projects we want to address first.
Work is also moving forward on a project that we have heard a great deal about for many years. Sound. We need to install a permanent sound/video system. Thanks to Micah DeSelms and Rebekah Shore for working hard over the summer to get rid of our many wires and cords to create a cleaner and safer Sanctuary. However, we still need a PERMANENT system that will allow consistent sound throughout the Sanctuary, mounted cameras and easy access to our sound system for people with hearing devices and those who need some extra hearing both sound and the spoken word during the service. We are seeking consultants/companies who can help us with this work.
UPB is not only exploring various projects, but we are also setting up internal processes, learning about town/state historic requirements, and raising the funds to make all this work and more happen!
The plan is to keep the Congregation informed through Realm, updates during the service, and on these pages. If you have questions or suggestions, talk to Patty S. or Deb H. You can find us in the choir loft after most services.
