Children and Youth Programming

Church School

The United Parish church school (preschool through 8th grade) provides a safe, secure and fun environment to nurture each child’s God-given gifts. In partnership with parents and clergy, the church school program helps children and youth develop Christian values, foster respect for different people and perspectives, and plant the seeds of God’s love and Jesus’ teachings to help children grow and become leaders in the church, community and world.

Church School meets 9:45am-10:45am before worship in our second floor classrooms, where students learn Bible basics, stories from the Christian tradition, and explore some of the Big Questions of our faith in age-appropriate ways.

Nursery

The Nursery is open on Sunday from 9:30am to 12:30pm, September through June and for special services throughout the year, welcoming infants through 4-year-olds. (The nursery is open in July and August according to the summer worship schedule from 9am-11:30am.) Learn more.

Pre-K and Kindergarten

Our Pre-K and Kindergarteners sing songs, learn stories, eat a snack, do crafts, and practice how to “take care, show respect, and give love.” After class, children are welcome to attend worship or spend time in the Nursery (up through age 4).

Elementary (1st-5th Grade)

Our Elementary students learn stories, play games or do crafts, and begin thinking about some of the Big Questions of faith. Students 4th grade and older can also sign up to be an acolyte in worship.

Middle School (6th – 8th Grade)

Our Middle School class meets for stories, discussion, games, and service projects (and bagels– bagels are very important). Every other year we mark our 6th & 7th graders “Lift-Off” into adolescence with a special celebration dinner with their families (next dinner is spring 2027).

Youth Programming

Parent/Teen Dinner Nights

Middle and High School youth (6th – 12th grade) and their parents (and their friends…and even sometimes their friends’ parents) come together for a monthly dinner and game night on the last Sunday of the month, 6:30 – 8:30pm. These dinners are very lightly-facilitated, and focus on connecting with peers and across generations.

Confirmation (9th & 10th Grade)

Our confirmands meet on the 2nd Sunday evening of the month (6:30 – 8:30pm), September through May, every other year (2025-2026 is a confirmation year). The process culminates with a special worship that celebrates and blesses the confirmands’ faith journeys, including a rite of confirmation for the confirmands who have chosen to become full members of the church. Our Parents-of-Teens peer group meets at the same time as Confirmation class.
