Help your child discover the joy of music, teamwork, and community! Children in 1st-6th* grade are invited to join the United Parish in Brookline Children’s Choir starting Sunday morning, September 13 at 9:30 AM in the Choir Room.
In keeping with our organization’s deeply progressive, radically inclusive, and affirming values, this choir is a warm and welcoming space where every young singer is celebrated. Together, children will learn basic vocal skills, explore diverse musical styles from a variety of cultures, and build confidence through faith-based songs rooted in love and justice. It is a wonderful way for elementary students to grow in their faith, make new friends, and share their unique voices with our congregation.

The United Parish Children’s Choir is open to all children ages 6 to 12, with the occasional eager five year old. Children should be at least starting to read when they join the choir, as this choir includes a wide span of ages, but eager and motivated singers are always welcome to join us. In this fun and joyful ministry, children develop their musical ability, their singing voices, their confidence, their leadership skills, and they build lasting friendships while learning songs that ground them in faith throughout their lives. If your child hasn’t sung in the choir before, they can join us for the first couple of weeks just to try it out!
FAQs
- When do the children practice?
Children begin gathering at 9:25am in the Choir Room (1st floor, orange walls, overlooks the playground on Harvard Street) on Sundays with a game or craft. Practice starts at 9:30am every week that we have church school from September to May!
No prior singing experience or auditions are required to sing in the children’s choir! Children learn to sing in choir!
- How often do they sing during worship?
The children’s choir sings special anthems (aka: choral songs for sacred worship) every 3-6 weeks in worship. They USUALLY sing special anthems just after passing out visitor flowers. I sometimes invite them to help me lead the “Passing of the Peace Response.” They sometimes will sing the Benediction Response at the end of the service.
- Is there a schedule for when the children sing in worship?
A full schedule for when the children will sing in worship will go out to all registered families after our second rehearsal.
You can register for choir when you register for church school by using this link: 2026-2027 Church School Online Registration. If you have trouble, Pastor Amy will help you get it sorted out! Do let me know that your child is coming, and I’ll add you to my email list.
- What if my child wants to sing in choir, but is nervous about performing in church?
Many children feel shy about singing in front of the congregation. This is completely normal. Some children practice for a whole year before they are ready to sing in front of the congregation and that’s perfectly fine with me!
