- The Chancel Choir is a capable and dynamic group of enthusiastic singers that rehearses on Thursday evenings in the Choir Room, and leads music in worship upstairs in the Sanctuary from September through June. They sing music in a variety of styles, from Baroque to gospel, and perform larger works with instrumentalists 2-3 times a year. Singers develop vocal technique and musicianship with the help of professional section leaders, expand their musical repertoire, and cultivate friendships in a warm and inviting community of singers while serving the worship needs of the church. They welcome adults and teens who can carry a tune and have some choral singing experience. (Inexperienced singers start with one-on-one training sessions on an as needed basis.) Please reach out to Minister of Music Susan DeSelms at susan@upbrookline.orgto learn more about how to join the Chancel Choir. We welcome new members throughout the year.
- Children! Lift Your Voices and Sing!Help your child discover the joy of music, teamwork, and community! Children in 1st-6th* grade are invited to join the United Parish in Brookline Children’s Choir starting Sunday morning, September 13 at 9:30am in the Choir Room. In keeping with our organization’s deeply progressive, radically inclusive, and affirming values, this choir is a warm and welcoming space where every young singer is celebrated. Together, children will learn basic vocal skills, explore diverse musical styles from a variety of cultures, and build confidence through faith-based songs rooted in love and justice. It is a wonderful way for elementary students to grow in their faith, make new friends, and share their unique voices with our congregation. This is for all elementary-aged children (no prior singing experience or auditions required!) *There is some flexibility in the age range – reach out to Susan DeSelms if you think your kindergartner might be ready! To sign up or learn more, reach out to Minister of Music Susan DeSelms at susan@upbrookline.org.
- United Parish Ringers, our handbell choir directed by Tricia Kopko, welcomes experienced and novice adults and teens, and rehearses Monday evenings from 7:30-9pm in the Sanctuary starting in October. They play 6-7 times a year, with 3-4 rehearsals leading up to each performance in worship. Repertoire is planned and adapted for the number of ringers signed up for each rehearsal/performance block. Learn more at an “Open Ring” on Monday, September 28 at 7pm in the Sanctuary. For more information, contact Tricia Kopko at bellchoir@upbrookline.org.
